Urgent request for Brolga catchers this weekend at Penshurst

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 11:43 PM PDT

My name is Inka and I am studying Brolgas in the South West on the VVP as part of a Phd.

I am looking for volunteers to help with catching brolgas between 19th-22nd
of June
. Accomodation provided. Experience preferred.

Those who’ve been out with me catching and handling brolgas and
with experience in cannon netting, handling large birds and banding are
preferred (but not essential).

I’ll be catching at Penshurst, which is about 3.5 hrs drive from Melbourne.
I am looking for a team of 6-10 people. Accommodation will be in basic
shearer’s quarters with beds (two people per room), kitchen, toilet, hot
showers, fridge/freezer, bbq (if people want to use bbq, please bring a gas
bottle for it).

Please bring your own bedding, binoculars, torch/headtorch, food, wet
weather gear, warm clothes and anything else that keeps you happy. In terms
of clothing, it’s best if you wear neutral colours – greens, greys, browns
(black also ok). Red, blue, yellow, white and other bright colours not
recommended. You may also want to bring a small heater – it is getting quite
cold out here at night.

Catching is likely to be weather dependent, so I’ve allowed for a few
potential morning catches. Also, if we catch early, the team is likely to be
able to go home earlier than the 22nd of June.

Please call me on 0409 383 665 to let me know if you’re interested.

Cheers,
Inka

VVP CMN offering service to local govt. and others across VVP.

Posted: 14 Jun 2010 10:53 PM PDT

The VVP CMN is promoting its services to the wider VVP Community through a series of presentations that began last week with the DSE run Inform Rather than Enforce workshops. As the largest Conservation Managment Network the VVP CMN has a strong committed network of landmanagers ready to work together to achieve sustainable conservation of grasslands on the VVP. We can assist in bringing together a range of stakeholders to efficently work on strategies and actions to protect and promote VVP Grasslands protected under federal and state law.

The Power Point presentation can be viewed at the link below;
