SOUTHERN OTWAY LANDCARE NETWORK- APOLLO BAY
POSITION VACANT
Landcare Project Support Centre Operator
0.3 FTE to 28 February 2013 (preferably 3 X ½ days per week) with a view to extension
The Southern Otway Landcare Network is a not-for-profit organisation that provides opportunities for the local community to learn about indigenous vegetation restoration initiatives and undertake on-ground works to assist with land management issues. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated team at Landcare in Apollo Bay. The successful applicant will be required to,
- Coordinate receipt of bulk seedling orders, their assignment into job lots, and oversee despatch to Landcare members conducting projects.
- Maintain the health of seedlings through operation of the reclaimed water re-use system in accordance with Environmental Management Plan.
- Assist with seed collection activities and seedling propagation trials where required by the Support Centre Manager and Team Leader.
- Coordinate assets (i.e. tools and equipment) and their availability to members of Landcare.
- General Maintenance of the grounds at the Landcare Support Centre.
Your ability to work as part of a team and autonomously, good time management and general maintenance skills, and your ability to build and maintain good working relationships with contractors will all be highly regarded. Qualifications and previous experience in a plant nursery are desirable, but not essential. Knowledge of indigenous vegetation communities considered advantageous. Over the past few weeks we have had some beautiful entries to our “Landscapes of the Southern Otways” Competition. Now it’s time to announce the winners. Southern Otway Landcare President and photographer Ros Jamieson has announced the winners. We’ll be publishing the winning entries to our website over the coming weeks.
Please note that due to resolution issues with some of the files we have been provided, we have been unable to physically print out all entries for submission to the show. Photos that will be submitted to the show are identified below. We encourage our other marvellous finalists to contact Libby on solnlibb@vicnet.net.au - we’ll give you something nice instead! We encourage all our wonderful entrants to submit their work to this Saturday’s show.
And the winners are:
First Place: Swell Point (1) by Andrew Strang

Ros writes: I really like the ambiguity of the shot, sometimes the pool appears concave and sometimes convex. Well seen and composed. Submitted to the Apollo Bay and District Agricultural Show.
Second Place: Lightning over the Bay by Amy Merriman Thomas

Ros writes: A great shot of lightning, a difficult subject. Very spectacular. Submitted to the Apollo Bay and District Agricultural Show.
Third Place: Untitled by Laurie Gallagher
Ros writes: Good use of the old window frame and excellent composition. I like the way the pathway leads the eye to the buildings in the background.

Landscapes of the Southern Otways Photo Competition

Corangamite Waterwatch Textiles Competition
Corangamite Waterwatch invites entrants to take part in our Fibre Artwork Competition to coincide with World Environment Day, June the 5th 2012. The theme is “Everything and anything to do with water and our environment” and is open to entrants in these categories:
- Primary School
- Secondary School
- Open
You may use embroidery, textiles and assorted fibres to create a hanging work the celebrates World Environment Day. Prizes are available and your entry will be displayed at the National Wool Museum in June.
