Do you want to be part of a Community Fireguard Group?

The CFA is running a Community Fireguard Programme throughout the Otway region. The aim of the programme is to ensure that residents (locals and part-timers) are fully informed about bush fires and what they can do to protect themselves.

The Community Fireguard Coordinator will work with groups of between 3-10 households (in each group) and facilitate a series of 4-6 sessions.  These cover:

 1. Introduction to fire risks and Community Fireguard

2. Personal Survival

3. House Survival

4. Bushfire Survival Pans and recovery after the fire.

The aim is that the participants are actively involved in the sessions and so develop a good level of knowledge to form their practical plans for the fire season that are relevant to their circumstance.

Data from last Summer’s fires and previous ones, show that those who were active participants in the Community Fireguard Programme fared better than others in the fires.
