Positions are currently available for Green Army in 2016.

Position: Green Army Team Leader

Location: Southern Otways (Negotiable within the region)

Salary $54,000 per annum plus superannuation (pro rata 6 month limited tenure).

The Southern Otway Landcare Network (SOLN) and the Conservation Ecology Centre (CEC) deliver a diverse range of Natural Resource Management projects including habitat restoration, revegetation, flora and fauna monitoring, sustainable agriculture and pest plant and animal control. SOLN and the CEC are pleased to be hosting three consecutive Green Army teams along the Great Ocean Road to deliver local conservation outcomes. The Green Army is an Australian Government initiative that provides opportunities for Australians aged 17-24 years to gain training and experience in the environmental and heritage conservation fields through participation in practical projects that deliver benefit to our  natural and cultural environment. .

We are seeking a suitably qualified person to supervise our Green Army Team. The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing Green Army participants,  ensuring the delivery of  onground projects whilst ensuring their safety and welfare.   This is a six- month fixed term contract, with the option to extend to an additional two six-month fixed term contracts.

Selection criteria and qualifications       

  • Leadership and communication skills and a commitment to working with young people in manner which emphasises personal and team development.
  • Relevant formal qualifications in youth development, community development and / or conservation.
  • Project management and delivery skills
  • Practical experience with project delivery, ideally in the field of Natural Resource Management
  • Experience working with community groups

Position: Green Army Participant

Location: Southern Otways (Apollo Bay and associated locations)

The Southern Otway Landcare Network (SOLN) and the Conservation Ecology Centre (CEC) deliver a diverse range of Natural Resource Management projects including habitat restoration, revegetation, flora and fauna monitoring, sustainable agriculture and pest plant and animal control. SOLN and the CEC are pleased to be hosting three consecutive Green Army teams along the Great Ocean Road to deliver local conservation outcomes. The Green Army is an Australian Government initiative that provides opportunities for Australians aged 17-24 years to gain training and experience in the environmental and heritage conservation fields through participation in practical projects that deliver benefit to our  natural and cultural environment.

Participants in the Green Army must be an Australian citizen between the ages of 17 and 24. They should have an interest in the environment, a desire to learn through practical work and the ability to work in a team environment with other young people. You will be involved in Green Army work for up to 30 hours a week for 20 – 26 weeks and will undertake accredited training modules working towards a Certificate II.

Participants receive an allowance of between $10.24 – $16.61 an hour.
