Landcare Lectures March 2012

Southern Otway Landcare are kicking off 2012 with two fantastic events in our Landcare Lectures Series. On the evening of Tuesday March 6th, Aquatic Scientist Tom Ryan will be presenting a lecture on the results of habitat restoration (re-snagging) programs and the construction of fish ladders on the Barham River. Many of you will know Tom from his electro-fishing demonstration at the Barham River Festival in 2012. He is a respected scientist with incredible knowledge of the fish species of the Otways and this promises to be a fascinating evening. In 2011 studies undertaken with the Department of Sustainability and Envrionement also resulted in significant new observations of the Australian Mud Fish (Neochanna cleaveri) listed as Threatened under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988.  Tom will be speaking from 7.30pm, venue to be announced. Cost: $10 ($5 for Landcare Members). Contact Libby Riches on 52377206 0r email solnlibb@vicnet.net.au.

On the afternoon of Saturday the 31st of March, Landcare will be co-hosting a very special event in association with Otway Dinosaurs. Dr Tom Rich, Senior Curator of Palaeontology at Melbourne Museum and Professor Pat Vickers-Rich, head of the Monash Science Centre, will team up to give rare personal insight into their journeys around the world as field scientists. We especially look forward to hearing about Dinosaur Cove, as it is our local story. An amazing opportunity to meet with two of the nation’s most pre-eminent scientists, this is a rare event with limited seating. Bookings are essential. Tom and Pat will be speaking up at the Wildlife of Gondwana Exhibition. Cost: $25 per adult, $80 for a group of 4. Phone Otway Dinosaurs on 5237 1111.
