2008 Victorian Landcare Forum – Creswick

When: Thursday 29 & Friday 30 May 2008Where: Novotel Forest Resort, 1500 Midland Highway, Creswick

Cost: $25 – volunteers & community group members; $200 – paid Landcare support staff. This cost is all inclusive and includes accommodation at the resort, all meals, and participation in the Forum. Delegates wanting to attend for one day are welcome, but will still have to pay the $25 or $200 fee.  

Details: the Landcare Forum is an opportunity for community Landcare members to come together, to celebrate achievements, and to provide leadership in adapting to change and shaping Landcare’s future.

Forum themes: the Forum will explore four key themes:·     Increasing community participation·     Developing new and stronger partnerships·     Landcare leading and adapting·     Visions for the future

Who should attend: members of Landcare and Friends Groups, landholders, community members, and Landcare staff with a role supporting community Landcare.

Program: will consist of stories from the regions, plenary session, keynote speakers, and social activities

Keynote Speakers: Dr Rohan Nelson (CSIRO) ‘On the horizon, issues for Landcare’ Dr Nelson will give an overview of changing climate, economics, ecology, social systems and farming systems in Victoria. He will outline what the Victorian community should expect and what are the risks and opportunities facing Victorian Landcare in the next 5 to 10 years.

Neil Henson ‘A futurist’s view of 2036: Issues for Landcare’ Neil Henson will be posing questions to the Forum such as: who will be involved in Landcare in 2036? What will they do? How will climate change, demographic change, social change and landscape change affect Landcare in Victoria?

Dinner MC: Ian Cover (ABC Radio) Ian Cover (of Coodabeen Champions fame) as the Master of Ceremonies will enliven the dinner event with anecdotes and observations, delivered with his trademark relaxed and humours style. S

Sharing stories is the focus of the first day of the 2008 Victorian Landcare Forum. This is the space for Landcare community to share their experiences, celebrate their achievements, and learn from their mistakes.

Story Arenas: stories are sought from eleven broad arenas of community Landcare action·     Revitalising local Landcare – bringing in new members, leaders and better governance to keep Landcare kicking·     Building knowledge and skills in communities – how is Landcare changing the thinking and practices of the wider community?·     Taking the Landcare ethic into towns and cities – through friends groups, bush regenerators, schools kids, local government and many more·     Climate change – how Landcare is adapting, responding and leading change·     Sustainable farming – are we gaining ground? What is producing changes in practices and systems?·     Finding our voice – speaking out at local, regional and state levels about Landcare issues·     Engaging Indigenous Victorians – working together to conserve and protect Indigenous cultural heritage values and places·     Community-business partnerships – linking up with local and big businesses who want to be part of the solution, not part of the problem·     Action in the rural/urban interface – where people are settling and agriculture is diversifying·     Biodiversity – can we connect our conservation work across farms and landscapes?·     Working with regions – negotiating a place in regional decision makingYour Story Telling Instructions:If you are interested in telling a story please keep these things in mind:·     You must be a registered community delegate at the 2008 Landcare Forum·     You will have 8 minutes! No more!·     Absolutely NO PowerPoint presentations allowed!
